Cotto D’Este was born in 1993 from a business idea of Paolo Mussini, the company’s founder and current CEO, who decided to create a new brand in a new and unexplored segment of the ceramics sector: top-quality floor and wall tiles for the top-end and luxury markets.
The idea was to create a company that was able to offer dream floor and wall tiles whose great attention to detail, finishes and technical and aesthetic quality would satisfy the taste and needs of more demanding consumers.
The Cotto D’Este philosophy has always been to combine perfectly aesthetics with top quality as well as an innate vocation for beauty and it has always characterised the story of the company that over the years has developed a continuously evolving path, gaining the position of leader in the sector of top range floor and wall tiles.
One of the main success factors continues to be intense Research and Development aimed at identifying constantly new production methods and innovative product lines that are able to meet the needs of customers who are increasingly demanding and sophisticated.
Cotto D’Este produces a top-quality type of floor and wall tile made of body coloured porcelain stoneware and glazed that combines the aesthetic appeal of handmade products and of the finest stone to be found in nature anywhere in the world with the reliability and quality of modern products obtained through the use of the most advanced production technologies, which are always deployed in an environmentally responsible manner. The unique finishes such as “lapping” and “veneer-glazing”, as well as the vast range of sizes that are available up to the large 90x90cm and 60x120cm sizes in the more modern products, are the guarantee of an original manufacturing technique that enables unique products to be obtained that are suitable both for renovating old buildings and for new residential, commercial and public buildings.

Cotto d’Este considers environmental impact and health and safety at work to be of fundamental importance. Its policy in this regard is therefore based on the following activities:

Everyone must realise that the protection of the environment and health and safety at work are essential and integral parts of their jobs.
A NEW SURFACE FOR ARCHITECTURE
Imagine a ceramic tile with all the cladding properties of the finest porcelain stoneware in a tile just 3mm thick. This is the Kerlite Series. Versatile and ease to use, this innovative, stunningly beautiful tile was a winner from the start. Requiring just wipe-clean maintenance, Kerlite is also lighter, easier to trim and lay. This makes Kerlite ideal for applications where other products, like washable paints or laminates were once chosen over traditional-thickness ceramics. Frost and stain resistant, Kerlite does not absorb liquids or odours. Dust and grime can be simply removed with hot water. Larger slabs mean less grouting. Grout widths can be smaller too, making Kerlite ideal for settings, like healthcare facilities, where hygiene and cleanliness are essential. But Kerlite is not just about technical excellence. Kerlite unfolds a whole new world in decorative tiling studied to meet the requirements of contemporary architecture.
RENOVATION WITHOUT DEMOLITION
Kerlite has taken another leap forward to become Kerlite Plus, the solution you were looking for to renovate your home. Kerlite Plus can be laid directly on old floors in wood, ceramic or other compact material. The back of each Kerlite tile has a tight-knit fiberglass mesh lining. As well as providing added resistance, the mesh backing ensures the tile will stick firmly to the subsurface. Being lightweight, new Kerlite overlay flooring will add very little weight to the existing floor slab. Only slightly thicker than the un-backed version (3.5 instead of 3 mm), Kerlite Plus allows you to renovate your home without the dust, noise and cost of demolishing and laying a new screed. There's no need to adjust doors or skirting boards either, and it saves the expense and trouble of moving permanent fittings. Kerlite Plus truly has advantages that money just can't buy.
